Rye Youth Lacrosse (RYL) was formed in 2004 with the mission of introducing the boys and girls of Rye to lacrosse, the fastest growing sport in America, in a supportive, positive and enthusiastic way. RYL is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit community-based program open to boys and girls in grades 1-8 regardless of ability or experience. Leah and Phil DeCaro, David Greenhouse, and Rob Santangelo formed Rye Youth Lacrosse in 2004 as Rye was one of the very few communities in the area without a youth lacrosse program. RYL first opened for registration in the spring of 2004 and offered a once-per-week program for boys in grades 1-6. Eighty-five boys participated in the program during the first season, and RYL was overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response from the community. Equally important was the strong commitment of the volunteers to be involved in all aspects of the RYL program.Today, RYL's programs have grown to offer an intramural level program as well as a more intensive travel program. Last year, over 500 boys and girls played in RYL's various programs, which included 8 travel teams. Countless volunteers gave hundreds of hours of their time to RYL to coach, referee, organize, clean up and cheer! RYL strives to be a positive influence in the lives of each of its players. |
