A LESSON ON LIVING

A few years ago, Jordan Burnham jumped out a nine-story window. Now, Jordan talks to young people across the country about how to get help for depression. Somehow Jordan, then 18, survived that 90-ft. leap. A  miracle? Jordan sees it as a chance to help other young people. Since his suicide attempt he has become a leading voice on teen suicide and depression, traveling to colleges and high schools five times a month to tell his story to other young people struggling with mental health issues, and testifying before Congress about the stigma of mental illness. Jordan will be speaking with RHS sophomore and junior students during the day and with the parent community that evening. Co-sponsored by the Rye Youth Council, Rye High School and Heard in Rye.

About The Rye Youth Council

The mission of the Rye Youth Council is “to address identified needs of school-aged youth who live or attend school in Rye by working collaboratively to sponsor school and community-based programs designed to foster the healthy physical, social and emotional development of our young people.”

The Rye Youth Council serves thousands of students in Rye public schools and private schools, including Resurrection and Rye Country Day Schools.

Established in 1963 by the mayor of Rye, the RYC was originally formed to combat shoplifting by Rye kids. It has evolved over the years into a vital community resource, providing programs and activities to hundreds of young people, their families and the Rye community.
