In the spring of 2013, citizens and representatives of various local organizations gathered to discuss the state of civility in Rye, New York. Organized by the Rye Youth Council, the meeting was devised as an opportunity for frank and meaningful dialogue about the values in the community.
A small task force of community members was formed as a result of that conversation and charged with writing a "Rye Civility Statement" that could be adopted by individuals and organizations alike. The final statement was published in the Rye Record in early November 2013. 68 community organizations signed on to show their support of the initiative. It will hopefully serve as a blueprint to create an environment of greater civility for the entire community and beyond. For more information, please visit www.civilityinitiative.org.
