50 YEARS RYE YOUTH COUNCIL: LOOKING BACK, LOOKING FORWARD

Some of our amazing Rye Youth Council Players with directors Paulette Mann and Maureen Fearon - symbolizing five decades of the Rye Youth Council in our community! Below is the text of their great performance, written by Paulette Mann.

THE RYE YOUTH COUNCIL 50th ANNIVERSARY POEM

THE YOUTH COUNCIL IS 50
AND IT'S COME A  LONG WAY
FROM THE FABULOUS 60'S
TO THE SUCCESS OF TODAY

IT STARTED WITH KIDS
AREN'T THEY ALWAYS TO BLAME?
SO LET'S TAKE A WALK
DOWN MEMORY LANE

THE 60'S BROUGHT HOOLIGANS
WITH STICKY FINGERS AS PROOF
THE FUZZ AND THE MAYOR
NEEDED TO REIGN IN THE YOUTH

THE MAYOR'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE WAS BORN
WITH PROGRAMS AND ADVOCATES
AND A GUIDE FOR TEEN "NORMS"

THEN CAME THE 70'S
CAN YOU DIG IT? FAR OUT!
THE YOUTH COUNCIL WAS OFFICIAL
"UP WITH PEOPLE" THEY'D SHOUT

THE PROGRAMS WERE GROWING
THERE WAS REALLY A NEED
SO THEY JUST KEPT ON TRUCKIN'
AND BROUGHT IN NANCY STEED

COPS AND KIDS, PROJECT OUTREACH
THE PROGRAMS WERE FIERCE
THE FIRST FUNDRAISER WAS HELD
BY COUNCIL PREZ JANICE PIERCE

LIKE, TOTALLY, THE 80'S
WERE GNARLY AND RAD
THINGS WERE BITCHIN, WE WERE STOKED
THE #1 ALBUM WAS "BAD"

MUSIC WAS HUGE
WE WERE HITTING OUR STRIDE
THE PIT WAS THE NEW CLUB
NOW IT'S CALLED WILDSIDE

OUT WENT THE 80'S
DUDE, THE 90'S WERE FLY
MARY SAVIOLA WAS HIRED
AND DARE CAME TO RYE

THE NEW STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD
MADE US PROUD
WE WERE ROCKIN' AND ROLLIN'
LED BY CONNIE MCLEOD

WE GOT A NEW CRIB
THE MCDONALD BUILDING WAS CLEANER
THE RYE Y OPENED A TEEN CENTER
THANKS TO OUR PREZ FRANCES WIENER

PEER NETWORKING WAS STARTED
BY CASEY CARLUCCI
THE CHICKS HAD TO STOP CALLING
EACH OTHER A  HOOTCHIE!

AS THE YOUTH COUNCIL GREW
AND THE STAFF EXPANDED
JUDY SECON MADE SURE
THAT NEW PROGRAMS WERE BRANDED

LAUREN MISCIMARRA WAS LEADING
THERE WAS LOTS TO BE DONE
LIKE THE NEW AND IMPROVED
CHARACTER ED CURRICULUM

ANDI, AND KRISTIN
SHARI AND KATE
OUR LEADERS CONTINUE
TO MAKE OUR ORGANIZATION GREAT

WE'VE GOT MUCH MORE TO DO
AS WE CLIMB UP LIFE'S LADDERS
SO WE CELEBRATE THE YOUTH COUNCIL
CAUSE CHARACTER MATTERS!!

The following speech was given by Lauren Miscimarra, former Board President, at the RYC Reunion Event on March 20, 2014.

We are celebrating over 50 years of the Rye Youth Council!

And there are so many people who have a true passion for this worthy organization.

And so, our campaign, Looking Back, Looking Forward!

Looking Back – It is wonderful to reconnect with all of you, whether you are here from far away or from around the corner – to catch up on what has been happening in your lives and talk about our years on the RYC Board – what we focused on then, what we wanted to achieve.

Looking Forward - We all know that the job of the RYC will never be done. There will always be a need in our community for the services they provide. Children keep growing up! Tonight, we hope to take a step forward towards insuring that the RYC will always be there, looking forward.

What the RYC is asking of us all is that we become Ambassadors for the RYC. When the opportunity presents itself, to share our knowledge of what the RYC offers our community, to speak of the valuable programs it presents, to talk about what a worthy organization it is, and pass along our passion for this organization so that we can stir up new support for the worthy services it provides. Making sure that looking forward, the RYC will be there.

There is also an opportunity to pledge support to the RYC in an ongoing format, and the donate button on this page will allow you to make such a donation. You can also mail a donation to the Rye Youth Council, 21 Locust Avenue, Rye, NY 10580.

Thank you for all of your passion and support, in the past and towards the future. We trust that it will become contagious in the community and we can be confident that looking forward, there will always be a bright future for the RYC.
